BOOKS AS CHRISTMAS GIFTS

November, 2025

Written by Willa R. Finnegan

TOPIC ON THE TABLE: BOOKS AS CHRISTMAS GIFTS

You know that feeling when you just can’t think of a good Christmas gift for someone? You pace a hole in the floor trying to wrack your brain for a mere inkling of an idea. Maybe the present is for your best friend, or your mom, or your uncle, or that one twice-removed cousin who’s twenty-three years older than you whom you barely know, yet you’re still obligated to buy them a gift for some reason. But what if there was one gift you hadn’t thought of yet…books.

Before I get into my blog for November, I should probably introduce myself in case you don’t know who I am. My name is Willa R. Finnegan, and I am the now fourteen-year-old, award-winning author of Snow: Cursed. I wrote my debut novel when I was eleven, got it published when I was twelve, and it was in paperback form for my thirteenth birthday. But that’s enough about me. Let’s get into November’s topic!

Where were we? Oh right! You realizing that a book could be the perfect Christmas gift for someone.

As an author, you probably assume that I love books, and you’re right. I do. I love them for so many reasons. But why are books such a good Christmas gift, you might ask? Let me explain.

Books are portals into other worlds, worlds that transport us, teach us, and allow us to escape from our everyday lives. Books can inspire us and change our opinions and the way we feel. Books can shape us as humans. Books can do so many things. Words are a gift in and of themselves. And to give that to someone can be something so special. To give the gift of literacy to someone, of joy, truly means something.

That’s the deeper version though. Reading books is also just a lot of fun in general! If you read my previous blog post, you probably remember that I talked about sprayed edges. Books with sprayed edges are a great gift to give someone for the holidays, especially if they enjoy both art and reading. Sprayed edges can be a portal in and of themselves.

Also, books are a gift that just keeps on giving. You might love a book so much that you share it with someone else, and that someone shares it with another person, and so on and so forth.

So, if you’re wondering what to get someone for Christmas, now you know.

I hope you enjoyed this blog today! Please join my mailing list for my newsletter. I’ll see you again in December! Merry Christmas in advance!
